About the Course

This lecture is divided into two parts delivered across two sessions and provides a foundational introduction to functional anatomy and biomechanics. It focuses on understanding how the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems integrate to produce and control human movement.

The lecture also introduces the fundamental principles of human movement analysis and their application in exercise selection and program design, athletic performance enhancement, and injury risk reduction.

Learning Outcomes By the end of this lecture, participants will be able to:

  • Understand the fundamental concepts of functional anatomy and biomechanics and explain their importance in sports training.
  • Identify the Anatomical Position and the basic anatomical terminology used to describe body structures and human movement.
  • Explain the roles of the skeletal, muscular, and nervous systems in producing and controlling movement.
  • Differentiate between the major types of bones and joints and identify the different planes and ranges of human movement.
  • Understand the fundamental principles of forces and levers and explain their effects on human movement and physical performance.
  • Describe the structure and characteristics of skeletal muscle, different types of muscle contractions, and the functional roles of muscles during movement.
  • Gain a basic introduction to sports movement analysis using the 5-Step Qualitative Anatomical Analysis Model to evaluate performance, identify movement errors, improve movement quality, and select appropriate exercises.
