This lecture introduces the Exercise Classification and Analysis Model (ECAM) as a practical framework that provides a clear conceptual map for understanding and applying exercise classification and movement analysis. The model bridges theoretical concepts with practical application through two fundamental components: 1.

Exercise Classification Exercise classification represents an essential step that precedes exercise selection during the design of training programs.

A systematic classification process enables coaches and fitness professionals to select exercises more effectively and appropriately according to the objectives and requirements of the training program, thereby enhancing the overall quality and effectiveness of program design. 2.

Exercise Movement Analysis Movement analysis is a fundamental component of the training process. Qualitative anatomical analysis provides coaches and fitness professionals with a scientific approach to understanding movement based on its observable characteristics.

It involves examining the relationship between muscle attachments and joint actions to identify how the body produces and controls movement. As a qualitative approach, this type of analysis describes movement without relying on detailed numerical measurements.

It provides coaches with a practical framework for identifying the predominant and controlling muscular activity during exercise performance.

This enables a better understanding of the movement patterns involved, helps identify technical and movement deficiencies, and supports the development of appropriate muscular function to improve performance and facilitate progression.
